Bourke Street Bakery - Crown Street

I love Crown Street. I love its seriously good cafes and restaurants, the cute little shops that you can't resist buying from, the gourmet grocers and the fact that Bourke Street Bakery is so close.

Ginger Brulee Tart, $4. I have forgotten how good it is.
Dark chocolate and sour cherry biscuit, $3.50. Soft, short and moist. Really chocolatey with random bits of sour cherry. I thought it could go for a bit more in the oven. I like my biscuits well done.

Fatter = More of me.
You see, eating all these heavy-duty goodies is actually not as bad as it seems.

The sky overcast, a drizzle that goes on and off, and wind that howls from start to end of the street. It was kind of romantic, just the two of us huddling under one umbrella, slowly making our way to the busstop. If only, if only it were a guy beside me. Then it wouldn't be so god damn cold. Not that I mind that it was Elise...

The loaf.

End.

Bourke Street Bakery

Hi guys, I'm back in Sydney. Holiday is over, school has started. It will be three months before I return to Singapore, this time for good. So might as well enjoy Sydney while it last. =)

One thing I will definitely miss: Bourke Street Bakery: their tarts! sausage rolls! and their amazing sourdoughs!! I won't wish for Bourke St. to open in Singapore though.. they will loose their magic there. Please don't come! I will visit you instead!

Lamb, harissa and almond roll, $4. I love the huge bits of whole blanched almonds, the sweet raisins and the very fragrant mince lamb!

Ja's raisin snail. She has got reflux, so it is all mild and gentle food for now.

Ja: my best Sydney foodie friend. I will also miss her.

Bourke Street Bakery

I am always excited to go to Bourke street bakery. It's because I don't get to go there often, this may be my third time only, having stay so far away. Also because this is such a good place for breads and pastries, the best they say.

9am, and the tables were all taken, with a queue .

Breakfast for 2. I secretly wished that I had the stomach of two people so that I can also try that delicious looking ham and cheese croissant and hazelnut twist too...

Lemon curd tart. The smoothest lemon custard paired with the awesome flaky tart, really simple yet so delicious. I am still amazed by the flaky tart base despite my eating it a number of times already. It surprises me still when I eat it. How can flaky and shortness co-exist so happily in a tart base? I cannot get around it.

Ginger brulee tart, $4.40. This has got to be one of my favourites of Bourke Street Bakery. I love love love the flaky tart crust, the thick luscious, ginger tinted custard, and the generous brittle burnt sugar.

Rhubarb almond tart, $4. It there anything that is not appetising in Bourke street bakery? Even this little humble tart is so good. The rhubarb is nicely sweet and sour, like the sour plum jam. It gives good colour contrast and keeps the almond tart moist. The almond tart, needless to say, is really fragrant. Together with the flaky tart base, again wow.

Carrot cake, $4.50 a slice. Can I say, best carrot cake in Sydney? and Singapore? Good thinking to sandwich the cream cheese frosting in the carrot cake instead of slapping it on top of the cake as frosting like the normal ones. It evens out the flavour, so that when you put a forkful in your mouth, you don't even one side carrot cake, one side cream cheese. chomp chomp chomp, all in my stomach now. =)

I am in bliss.

A truly amazing day.

This morning, we were supposed to go to Pyrmont Market (which is a monthly event) but, alas!, both of us overslept. haha. I woke up at 9am, Stella at 10am, and Pyrmont closes at 11am. What is the point of rushing down to Pyrmont right? With the abilities of Sydney transport, we'll probably be there for the closing of the market. Anyway, it doesn't matter. We had something much more fun than Pyrmont market. We went food hunting. ^^

#1 food hunt: 85 degree celsius. Their cakes look so appealing from the display stand that we were lured into it. Too bad the cakes are -_-".
Hokkaido strawberry shortcake, my foot. Taste dry and bland and cheap. $3.60.
Napoleon that looks like a swiss roll. The puff pastry inside is just too limp and flaccid. Plus, who uses swiss roll material for napoleon? The cream too, it is just sweetened whipped cream. I was so cheated. $3.60.
Cafe latte. Was average. $3.20.
On our way to Glebe street, we stumbled upon this petit little boulagerie and patisserie. They have such good gems. This little shop was packed! with people. We decided to have an organic cola. Best cola I have ever tasted. It makes coca-cola and pepsi taste like medicine. This organic cola is in fact made from the real cola nut in New Zealand. Like super-wow. $4.00.
Yup, that is the bakery. They have loads of sourdough.
We also settled for 2 strawberry creme brulee tart. Absolute delicious. $4.40 each. Bit pricey though.

We walked and walked and we finally made it to Glebe Point Street. :D

We were so lucky! We missed the Pyrmont market and here is another market waiting for us. It turns out that there is a weekend market here every Saturday. They sell some amazing stuff.

Once you enter the market, on your immediate right, you'll see this gypsy owned clothes stall. The lady design her own clothes and get helpers to help her make it. I like her concept. It's like putting scraps into a decent piece of clothing. I like it. Very pro-environment. :)
And, ah.., I blew $60.00 on this stall. haha. This is absolutely delicious too, albeit a little too much salt. Turkish Gozleme with chilli beef. Wow. $9.00.

Opposite the market, there is the famous Sappho Books. They sell books and cafe. Beautiful little area. They have a huge collection of old scores and music materials.

Next to Sappho books is San Churro, top quality spanish chocolates. As much as we'd like to, we didn't try out the chocos. Our stomach is filled with gozleme.

Walk further down the street, you'll come across this cute organic shop. They have all sorts of gadgets that can help to save our planet. For example, turn-your-rubbish-into-fertiliser bin and store-sunlight jar.

Happy, sha-la-la-la. We are waiting for the bus, sha-la-la-la. The bus takes forever, sha-la-la-la.
The stuff which my wallet bled for. Fifteen dollars undies, thirty dollars shirt (bought at the gypsy lady stall) and thirteen dollars-ninety cents plantable cards!

At 6pm, we promptly went to Cynthia's house for dinner. She is so nice! She invited us to try out some Brazilian cuisine. Therefore, from left, we have pastels and cheese breads. Delicious~!

Corn cake with orange syrup and a pie that Cynthia just made up.

And the unbelievably sweeeet degeiiero (I hope I spelt it right). Made from condensed milk and cocoa powder. Two of them and I am killed for the day.

After all the dinner stuff, we do what all girls do, we play dress up. :D That is me in Cynthia's dress. She has many beautiful things from Brazil. Truly amazing. And I liiiike her dress!
Stella's turn at dress-up. Cynthia did the make-up, I did the hair. Stella look so good. I am so proud of myself!
Cynthia, she taught me alot today. Alot. Thank you!
End.
