Pyrmont Market

Time flies. It is already my second pyrmont market visit this year. I use my visits to pyrmont market to measure the time I spent in Sydney. Pyrmont market only happens once a month (the first Saturday of each month), and I do make it a point to go every time, you see. To sum up, it is my 7th week in Sydney now, two more to go and I'll be home in Singapore. =)

Elise and I arrived at the market later than usual. It was blazing hot when we got there, and to our horror the market stalls were starting to close... Since when the market closes this early? It's barely half past ten in the morning. It never occur to me to check the closing time of the market since I was always there super early and usually left before the stalls started closing. Well, now I know, pyrmont market starts at 7am, closes at 11am.

Consummate: my favourite artisan bread baker. I planned to buy my beloved olive bread (best olive bread I reckon in Sydney) but it was sold out. All that was left were a few pathetic looking baguettes and a meager selection of pastries. I settled for a baby sourdough (they call it The Little One $3, cute right?) from La Tartine which is quite good. In fact I tried to recreate Yellow's croque madam this morning with the sourdough. Yumm.

Breakfast: Bacon and egg sourdough roll with chilli jam from Consummate, $5. Best bacon and egg roll in the market simply because they go to the trouble to use proper sourdough roll. Chilli jam is a bonus.

Our favourite coffee in Sydney: Toby's Estate. A cappuccino and a latte, $3 each. I really like toby's estate coffee. It is strong, very full-bodied and smooth. And when you have it with milk (cafe au lait), it is naturally sweet, no need to add sugar.

It is my first time seeing a portable pizza oven. wow. It was only when we were having our bacon and egg rolls that we saw the pizza stall at the far end of the market. Fresh pizza! Will try the next time if it is still there.

This caught my eye. Prickly pears! with a caution sign on it. And incidentally, during school yesterday, we learned that there is a Prickly Pear Festival in Turkey. I wonder if there is a connection...

Pyrmont market, Last French class

The most recent Saturday is my last French class in Sydney (not that I won't continue when I return but it won't be with the same bunch of people again) and also a Pyrmont market session in a very long time. God, I miss Pyrmont farmers' market. In fact, I missed 1 hour of French class just to attend the market.

The first thing I noticed upon entering the market is the aroma of steaks grilling on the pan from the steak stall. Ah, the smell of Pyrmont market. Then it was the dogs. People here love to bring their dogs out at every possible opportunity. Big dogs, small dogs. I miss Vicky.

So some last minute shopping before I return. Bought a couple of jams, 2 bags of one of Sydney's best coffee (freshly grounded) and macadamia nuts for Christmas.
Many people came that day. I think it was because the weather was so good. Bright and sunny, abit of an overkill really. We were baked while having our breakfast.
Breakfast! Cold lemonade (super good, it has like got spices and ginger in it) and chorizo sandwich with caramelised onions and tomato basil sauce. Ohhh.
Was very tempted to buy some of the pastries too. But, was wayyy too full from the sandwich. Hot weather truly makes one eat less. Great for slimming. hoho.
And then we arrived at French class, very late and very sweaty.

The class was in such a party mode. All we could think and talk about was the performance we had to give later at the party. haha, Joel is Rudolf.

Finished an hour earlier for the party. Stella, Monique and I.

Waiting for our turn to singg. We had to sing in French:

On appelait Nez Rouge... (Rudolf the red-nose reindeer)

Not the exact translation but it is the equivalent of the English version.

Gabriella, Stella,Matthiew, Monique and I.

Would you like to have some pie? hahaha.

Aww, I'll miss you...

In the center is our teacher, Liliane. Elle est chercher pour un italien surfer.

Mary, Heidi (Me) and Michele.

Party food!

"I'm not kidding, I am opening my eyes!" I would miss Matthiew extremely, him and his dry Brit humour.

End.

Prymont Growers' Market

The one market I have been wanting to go. Prymont Growers' Market. Finally! after missing out on last month because we overslept. haha. This time Stella and I woke up at 5.30 in the morning and arrived a good 15 minutes before the agreed meeting time. Payback time. :D The growers' market is a market where all the primary producers all gather at Prymont Bay Park on the first Saturday of every month to sell their products. Expect to see gourmet food, fresh flowers and plenty of dogs in the area.

Stella and Soek at 7.30am.

Little tents like these fill up the entire area. You can smell food everywhere! Grilled bacon, fresh coffee, fried sausages...

Our breakfast. Our noses led us there. Egg and bacon roll with chilli jam. $5.

With New Jersey award-winning chocolate milk. $4.

Stella

Heidi, me.

Spinach in colours I have never seen before.

Fried ravioli. Free samples given out. Freshly made by this man! We were chatting to him and he decided to give us a bunch of the fried ravioli. How nice!

Another egg and bacon roll stall. This dish seems pretty popular here.

He will sharpen your knifes for $5 each.

The flowers. They are so tempting. I almost bought 2 pots of lavender back. I thought for a long time and then, urghh, too heavy.

I don't have the photos here but I bought 2 loads of things. 1 smoked rainbow trout $9 (for dinner), 1 sparkling apple juice $3, 1 danish pastry $3.50, 2 bottles of jams $12.50 and 1 dog bone $3. Plus I have to carry Stella's share home. Waaa.

End.
