Yobuko Day 4

One of the highlights of our trip is definitely Yobuko. Yobuko lies along the coast of Saga-ken, just next to Hakata-ken. So we had quite abit of traveling to do. It took us about 2 hours in all to get to the ryokan we are staying at. Train, train, train, bus, mini-van. haha. Anyway, we stopped over at Karatsu to stretch our legs for abit. It's a little town known for it's pottery. Quite lovely actually.

Day 3

At Karatsu Station.
A covered shopping street where I had tofu ice-cream. haha. It is a surprisingly pleasant place to do shopping.
These old japanese mamas are pretty shy people. My mum likes to bully them with the camera. haha.
Karatsu-jinja, a scenic shrine.

Some lovely pictures of Karatsu town.

Japanese school girls! (they aren't as hot as the ones in Osaka but owells.)

Our lunch consist of their local delicacies: Tempura squid, Squid siew mai and home-made udon.

The udon here is different from other parts in Japan and way above the rubbish we have in Singapore. It is sliced thinly, about half the size of what we usually have, and it bounces too. I fell in love with udon on this day.

Transit at Karatsu to Nishi-Karatsu. We walked to this single post showa bus stop to catch a bus to Yobuko. Yan was close to hysteria when she saw this no man land. This place is really quite empty and under-developed. Yan was like "Ahhhhh! I want to go back to Singapore!" hahaha. I like this place.
At Shin-ya ryokan. This obasan came to serve us tea and sweets. 8400yen per person inclusive of dinner and breakfast. It's worth your every cent. You'll see.
Our room comes with a habour view! i think all rooms does. Anyway, we went for onsen straight away. (we didn't bathe yesterday.) The big bath has a mountain view of the habour as well. Whoo! And we had the whole bath to ourselves.
Dinner is served at your room. Note: the squid is still moving while on the plate. Squid sashimi on the top. The tentacles and head can be tempura fried, deep fried or grilled according to your choice. Yumm.
Tai sashimi, deep-fried fish ( i forgot what it's called), broiled salmon, pickled ika, a tofu hotpot, a small squid siew mai and orange jelly for dessert (it's also a local delicacy). The entire course meal was too wide-spread for my little camera. haha. Oh, and Katsu-san, the owner of this ryokan came to accompany us for our dinner. He's young, hot and rich. haha. And he speaks good american english.

Another obasan who brought our dinner to us. This ryokan is almost entirely staffed by obasans. Service is impeccable and they are so so so warm and hospitable. Highly recommended if you ever make it there.

Erm.. my cousin had cup noodle for dinner by her choice. (we didn't ill-treat her) She's very japanese food-resistant. Correction. She's very food-resistant. She weighs 42kg and is taller than me. She thinks there's something wrong with me for being able to eat so much. haha. Sometimes, i think it's true but most of the times i can't be bothered. Food rocks!

Yan and I took a night stroll by the river. It's beautiful even at night.

Our beds were made by an obasan while I was in the toilet. :D My mum and I downed another bottle of sake while eating the complimentary orange sweet cakes. Sweet dreams.

End.
