Koyasan Day 8

Today, I can proudly say I stayed in a temple. :D yeah. Japan, besides China, is perhaps the only place that offers temple lodging. It is an experience that you should give it a go if you have the chance though it's not cheap. 9600 yen inclusive of dinner and breakfast.

Day 8
Breakfast at Amazon again. Shows how much we like it. :)
We all ordered the open baguette breakfast. haha. Heidi's choice rocks! Followed by a huge banana given by the owner of the ryokan.
Shinkansen-ed to Shin-osaka to transfer to Koyasan. Early morning causes one to be slightly silly.

Our lunch while waiting for the train. Sushi and pao.

What would you pay for scenery like these? 1230Yen. That's the price for the train ride up to Koyasan mountain.

The train stops just five minutes from the summit. From here we got to take a cable-car up. The lonely planet travel guide says the cable-car is not for the faint-hearted. My cousin was a little disappointed.

Yeah. After 1 and half hours, we arrived at Mount Koya.

Then we took a 30min bus ride to the temple we're staying at: Shojoshin-in, 静心峙.

Inside the temple.

Outside the temple.

Another Cola bench!
After the mini-tour, we returned to the temple for a bath. And wow, they actually have a cypress wood bath. haha. I thought they only have that in TV.
Onsen makes one hungry. I am a living prove of that. So straight after the bath, I ate the complementary sweets even though dinner is a short half an hour away.
Haa, dinner at 5.30pm.
Koyasan is famous for their tofu. They should be. Their tofu is incomparable. You can totally taste the soya bean in the superfine tofu. Tofu in Singapore comparatively taste bland and rough. From top left: cold tofu in shoyu and wasabi, yasai tempura, vegetable clear soup, pickled black beans, pickles and rice.
From bottom left: simmered pumpkin, mushroom, lotus root, peas in pods and tofu skin, pickled daikon and fruits.

Not much to do after dinner. So we played with the camera. haha. Goodnight.

End.
